I took my G-Shock MIP Square into direct sunlight for the first time since its chaotic unboxing, and my impression of its clarity has changed. Rainbows were all over the screen. The GWXB5600 reflected sunlight in such a way that rainbow patterns ghosted all over the field of view.
What happened?
Remember Physics class?
Back in 1997 I took high school physics. I’m stretching on my memory of all of this, but light, when it hits a surface, refracts at different angles for different colors. It’s how a prism works. So I think that the screen of the MIP does that.
This isn’t my first MIP G-Shock. But it’s my first positive display MIP G-Shock. I don’t remember seeing the rainbow ghosts on my negative displays.
So more investigation is needed. But if the rainbow patterns bother you, either stick to a normal LCD screen or a negative MIP.
