Your King has Returned!

The King was entombed alive. Eventually he gave up the ghost. Can the sun bring him back and restore him to his previous glory? The King I’m referring to is the G-Shock GXW-56BB. I stored him in my G-Shock tool box where his solar charging battery system was deprived of sunlight and became totally depleted.

Lots of commenters warned me this would happen. In every one of my YouTube videos when I popped open that G-Shock tool box they said the King needed some sun. If I didn’t act quickly he would die. Well, there are a lot of ways I act. I act powerfully. I act definitively. But quickly does not describe how I act. So the King died.

In my last live stream, when I held up the lifeless body of the King, Fulop challenged me to bring him back. The idea was to see how much sunlight was needed to revive him. What an excellent idea!

So on November 21, 2024 I strapped the dead G-Shock King to my wrist and took him along on my workday in the oilfield. The above video is a vlog of that day when I launched an experiment to see how long it takes to bring back a dead Tough Solar G-Shock watch.

Peer review my results

Since this is an experiment, you will need to run the test yourself to confirm my published findings. To do that you need to be a King owner. Just a warning: owning a King confers much power. And with it comes responsibility.

What responsibility? The King needs sun but he’s so big he can be impractical to wear all the time. You will need to periodically wear him out just to get sunlight. If you fail to do so you’ve proven yourself too irresponsible to even own a King. Under no circumstances shall you allow your King to die!

To buy your own King, I recommend heading over to G-Shock website using this affiliate link. It’s to the G-Shock GX56, which is not the exact model featured in the video. The one I’m wearing is the GXW-56BB, which has Multiband 6 atomic time synch. That one is no longer available. This link is for the standard King, but G-Shock offers color variations so scroll around to find one you like.

How about Amazon shoppers? Can you get a King there? Yes. Actually I bought my King from Amazon. But again, that exact model is not available. Currently there is available on Amazon a variation of the King that is sold out on the G-Shock website. It’s the tacticool two tone variation. Here is an affiliate link to buy the Two Tone G-Shock King from Amazon.

The King Woke up

So when I was pretripping my truck I made sure to get some light on it from my high beams. And by the way this video is proof I actually did a pretrip. So I hope my mechanic sees. Anyways, the sun rose while we were driving to the job site in Mentone, Texas at around 7:30. The sunrise was spectacular, as per usual in west Texas.

At the morning safety meeting the company man asked me what the date was for the JSA he was filling out. I looked down at my G-Shock watch and told him confidently it was January first. Huh? That’s not right! Oh wait! The King is back on!

That’s how the safety meeting went. And also this video is proof we actually did the safety meeting. We didn’t just pencil whip a JSA like some unscrupulous crews would do. That meeting happened at 8:30.

With sunrise at 7:30 and the meeting at 8:30, it shows that it only took an hour of Texas sun for the King to reawaken from the dead. But at that point it could only show the time and only incorrectly. It would not allow navigation to another menu item, even setting the watch was impossible while it blinked “CHG.”

The King Stood up

The next surprise happened while I was refueling my equipment after the job that afternoon. The battery level indicated M for Medium. The King leapfrogged L for Low and went to M. That was around 13:00 or 14:00 when I noticed that.

I tried getting Multiband6 to pull in the time synch but I’ve never been able to get that to work during the day for any of my watches. So I set it manually that evening. At midnight the King did pull in the correct time. When I woke up the next morning everything was all synchronized correctly.

The King Rules!

Yes, I was surprised by low little sun it took to awaken the G-Shock GXW-56BB and then to restore full functionality. The only thing I didn’t see was the King get back to H for High on the battery indicator. I wore it again the next day and it stayed on M. I haven’t worn him since but last I checked he’s still on M in the box.

And yes, he’s back in the box. Now that I’ve shown how little effort is needed to bring him back I’m not going to put up with whining in the comments that I’m abusing him. It’s okay to let him die. It’s not irresponsible. I’ve got a lot of stuff going on right now in my watch wearing life. Give me a break.

Can you raise yourself from the Dead?

Honest question. If you die can you raise yourself from the dead? I’m not talking about raising someone else. Like if someone was clinically dead maybe you could do CPR or something to bring him back. I don’t know if I could. The safety guy at work ran a class on doing CPR and he said I pumped too hard and the CPR dummy was going to break. I bottomed out his chest and his face flap was flying off.

Maybe if you were choking you’d rather deal with that pain alone rather than add it my brutal chest pumps.

Anyways I’m getting off topic because the question stands: can you raise yourself from the dead? As powerful as my CPR chest pumps are I can’t do them to myself because if I’m dead I can’t do chest pumps. Especially not on my dead body.

The reason I ask such a ridiculous question is for a religious reason. The Bible says Jesus rose himself from the dead. Look here:

John 10:14–16, 17-18 (ESV)

I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.

For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”

If Jesus can raise his own dead body from death that means he has power over death and his life and his existence extends beyond this physical world. The resurrection means he’s God. Believing in him gives true life to our own spiritually dead bodies.

Romans 8:9–11 (ESV)

You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

That’s why I end a lot of my videos saying Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He can give you life. He is the sun, the source of life. You are a watch with a dead solar battery that can only be given life by an external source, the sun.
