My first response when I unboxed the G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-B1000 was “Wow.” This Master of G watch certainly caught my attention with its premium metal components. After wearing the watch for a couple months the question remains, “Is is worth $800?”
That’s what I answered in this YouTube review video. What does this tough timepiece have to offer, and what are its pros and cons?
Warning to anybody with OCD, I noticed a detail about my G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-B1000 that will set you over the edge. If you don’t have OCD you will think this is the dumbest thing to notice. But here it is: when I press the light button on my Mudmaster, the metal shroud goes in with it.
That’s it. The button works fine. So I suppose this movement is just cosmetic and won’t affect the mud resistance or waterproofness.
A lot of you reading right now are thinking this is really stupid to complain about. Well okay, I guess you guys don’t have OCD. But for everyone else flipping out about this I just want to say calm down and stop pacing back and forth obsessively!
Also I’m sorry for abbreviating it as OCD rather than spelling it out in its entirety, “Obsesssive Compulsive Disorder.” I know how much that bothers some of you!

*Claims made about Mudmaster buttons calming SPD are unsubstantiated.
The gloves are ON for this one! In this video I answer the question everyone one is asking. Well, everyone who wears gloves. Can you press the buttons of the G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-B1000 while wearing gloves?
To answer the question I went through the steps of wearing the G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-B1000, wearing gloves, in this case my impact gloves they issued me at work, which I labeled with my name, Jim, and therefore call “Jimpact gloves,” and attempted to press the buttons while my iPhone, in video camera mode, was perched on the battery box of oilfield equipment and recording said attempts at pressing the buttons.
That entire previous paragraph was actually just one sentence. Recently, I realized that my high school English teacher, though possibly reading this, cannot deduct points anymore for run-on sentences. Thus, I will implement run-on sentences to extend the life of the period button on my keyboard.
Anyways, the Mudmaster did well in the button pressing test.
Before I tell you how to clean the fabric sheath that comes with the Leatherman ARC, let me tell you how I get mine dirty: by rolling around on the ground underneath my truck. I operate oilfield equipment that is mounted on tractor trailer trucks. So when things break down, often they require me to get on my back and shimmy underneath, all the while my belt-mounted Leatherman sheath is collecting oil, grease, grime, and dirt.
How to Clean the Sheath
Chuck it in the washing machine.
Yup. That’s it.
I suggest using dish washing detergent instead of laundry detergent. But that’s just because I’ve gotten better results from dish soap for cleaning really dirty oilfield FR’s than I have with your regular soaps for clothes. Some G-Shock watches need a USB charger. If you need a replacement, where can you go? Good news. Now you can pickup an aftermarket USB charger from Amazon.
So if you need another USB charger for your G-Shock DW-H5600, GPR-H1000, or GBD-H2000, there are options available on Amazon from third-party manufacturers.
Click here on this affiliate link to buy the USB charger I used for my G-Shock DW-H5600 in the above video. The one that came with it broke. So this replacement charger allows you to plug in the included USB C cable or any other USB C cable to bring the bars back up on your Square Heart watch.
The G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-B1000 costs $800. The G-Shock Gravitymaster GR-B300 costs $300. What makes the Mudmaster cost $500 more, and is it worth it?
Yes.
$800 says “Premium”
When I unboxed the Mudmaster the first thing I thought was, “Wow.” The attention to detail is evident when you see the GWG-B1000 in person. So it may seem like $800 is a lot to spend, and it is, but the Mudmaster is worth $800.
First, many components of the Mudmaster are crafted from metal. They keep a chiseled shape for these metal parts, which include the bezel, the dogs, and the button shrouds. Some of the case is metal, but some is Carbon Core Guard, which keeps the watch light and more resistant to shocks.
I didn’t even mention it in the video, but the glass is sapphire. So those of you who refuse to wear a watch with mineral glass, which scratches, will appreciate that.
Finally the hands are big and lumed well. Also the Mudmaster is jam packed with features that utilize the ABS sensors and the Bluetooth connected app for GPS information.
Question from YouTube commenter Zlobert: Which G-Shock wears smaller, the DW-6900 or the GD-010?
That’s a good question, so I hit record on my video camera and compared these two G-Shocks!
It’s a 6900, albeit a GW, not DW.
First, it should be noted that I do not own a G-Shock DW-6900, but I do have a GW-6900. What’s the difference between the two? The GW-6900 has Multiband 6 and Tough Solar. So it has additional functionality over the DW-6900, and it costs more.
Since we’re comparing the fit, the additional functions don’t matter. This video is all about the physical dimensions.
Good news! They found a pallet of G-Shock Mudmen in the back of the warehouse! Remember how I warned you about the limited supply of GW-9500s? That is no longer the case. What happened?
Here’s how it went down. Maybe not in reality, but certainly in my head: Casio sent an intern out to audit the warehouse inventory. He failed to see an entire pallet of G-Shock Mudmen because someone leaned an empty pallet against it.
Public Service Announcement
Don’t ever lean pallets! If you have empty pallets, stack them safely on the ground.
Low Stock Alert for the G-Shock Mudman GW-9500-1. As you gentlemen know, the Mudman is my favorite watch. It seems as though the G-Shock factory cannot keep up demand and the G-Shock website is saying there are only 10 Mudmen left in stock!
I strongly suggest going over there and buying the G-Shock Mudman GW-9500 while you still can. Click here on my affiliate link. Buy one of the last ten before it’s too late.
The Plastic Bezel Mudman
What sets this particular Mudman apart from the other variations is its plastic bezel. Recent releases of the Mudman GW-9500 have upgraded bezels made of metal.
Who doesn’t love to read his watch? That’s what big numbers are all about: LEGIBILITY! So let’s take a look at some Casios and G-Shocks that I own that have BIG numbers!
CASIO AE-1500
I remember the day I walked into Walmart wearing my G-Shock King, the GWX-56BB. It was big, yet with small numbers on a negative LCD, it was hard to read. I didn’t think Casio could make watches with big numbers. Then I lifted my eyes from the watch I was wearing and gazed at the Casio AE-1500. I read the time from across the store.
I approached the watch, and to my delight, it advertised itself as an extended wrist band watch. Perfect for a big wrister like me.
Flipping the box around I saw its price tag: $21.
You’re dadgum right I bought it! And after wearing it, I have officially declared it the BEST $20 watch!
It costs a little bit more now thanks to inflation, but you can still pick it up for under $25. Go ahead and click this affiliate link to buy your own Casio AE-1500.
