My wife doesn’t want her review of G-Shock’s GBD-H2000 to be mischaracterized as a negative review, but she won’t be wearing it anymore.
Denise tried my G-Shock fitness watch after wearing the DW-H5600 for several months. The “Square-Heart,” as we called it, served her well as she trained for and competed in a few road races. But there was one huge problem: no GPS.
The step counter on the DW-H5600 reads arm movement. So when she pushes the stroller on her walks it doesn’t register her activity without the smartphone app. That’s because her arms are pushing the babies, not swinging back and forth with her steps.
My G-Shock fitness watch, the GBD-H2000 has a GPS. So it can record your movement across the face of the Earth and interpolate your step count. I can walk with my arms folded like a cossack. It will tell me my steps based on my height and distance traveled.
So I gave Denise the GBD-H2000 and asked her to try it out. Yes, the GBD-H2000 is big. Correction, it’s huge. Yet, the only way we’d know if it would actually work for her would be for her to try it. And what was the verdict?
It left a bruise.
The G-Shock GBD-H2000 was too big for Denise’s 6 inch wrist. It wasn’t so bad when working out, but as she wore it to bed it pushed against the bump on her wrist and caused it to become sore. Sleeves were a big problem too, as this big boy didn’t fit under demure women’s fashions.
Not to mention the style was pretty incongruous. We joke my all black overmolded GDB-H2000 looks like Batman’s fitness watch. My wife dressed like Vicky Vale.
That’s not to say the G-Shocks won’t work for her. She loves the size and style of her gold GM-S2100PG. But the proportions of the GBD-H2000 were just too much to wear all day, every day.
It’s Hard To Let Go
As I write this, Denise just went out for a run. And she wasn’t wearing her Fitbit. She put back on the GBD-H2000. That’s because she likes the functionality of G-Shock’s GPS enabled fitness watch. (Or maybe because our baby daughter Roxie crawled away with the Fitbit.)
The GBD-H2000 has more exercises than the DW-H5600. The watch face is more customizable. And that builtin GPS can do a lot on its own without connecting to a smartphone app.
So maybe the GBD-H2000 would be a good option for her just when working out. Of course she’d miss out on the sleep tracking features.
Big Wristers Only
Guys, I love the GBD-H2000. It’s the most comfortable watch I own. Heck, it’s the most comfortable watch I’ve ever worn. But my wrist is 8 1/2 inches around. I suspected Denise would find it big, but I’m surprised it was actually uncomfortable for her.
So how will it work for you? If you’re a big guy looking to get in shape, I think you’ll get a lot from the GBD-H2000. But it may not be the best option for your wife.
Go ahead, Big Guy, buy the G-Shock GBD-H2000 from Amazon by clicking this link. It’s the all black version just like mine.
