Owl Based Mudman GW-9501KJ-8JR

The title of this video is a hilarious joke that you’d only get if you’re an oilfield hand.

There’s this drilling fluid called “oil based mud.” It’s pretty much just diesel and barite. I guess there’s other stuff too, but the only two ingredients I know of is diesel and barite. I used to haul it to drilling rigs with my Peterbilt. So “Owl Based Mudman” is a riff on that.

It’s a hilarious joke that only I get. And I barely get it because as I establish early on in the video, my I.Q. is high in the sense that it’s in the high double digits.

Anyways, the subject of the video and this corresponding blog post isn’t my Intelligence Quotient. It’s the new Mudman variant released by Casio G-Shock in collaboration with Earthwatch Japan. It’s another “Love the Sea and the Earth” model.

They explain it over at G-Central really well. The Rangeman GW-9400 is no longer the watch they base these “Love the Sea and the Earth” watches on.

And it makes sense. Think about it. “Love the Sea and the Earth” Uhh, okay. What happens when you combine sea and earth? I know from my visits to Nantasket Beach. You get mud.

Yes, mud.

Hence, Mudman.
