After wearing G-Shock’s new Fine Metallic Gold GM5600YMG-9 for about nine days, I recorded this review video. The world needs to know about the breakthrough technology that G-Shock developed to combine the look of metal, the feel of silicone, and the toughness of urethane.

Beyond Bling
Bling does not even begin to describe the sleek metallic appearance of this Gold G-Shock Square. Bling implies sparkle. This one is sleek, like someone poured molten gold on your wrist and the cooling blob just so happens to tell the time.
From stem to stern, the gold gleams. The buckle is gold. Its tang is gold. The band on the buckle side is gold. The keeper is gold. The bezel is gold. The inner bezel is gold. The LCD screen may or may not be gold. But it sure looks gold with all the gold around it. And of course, the other band is gold.
Is it real Gold?
You’ve heard it said there’s no stupid questions. But that one really pushes the limit. The G-Shock GM5600YMG-9 retails for $280. So, no, it’s not real gold.
You’re missing the point though.
It’s not just that it’s gold colored metal. The band isn’t even metal at all! It’s a urethane band that has the color of metal and the luster. The band matches the metal bezel perfectly! That’s the design objective of G-Shock’s Fine Metallic series. And I think they knocked it out of the park!
Big Wrister Approved!
The Gshock.com website listed the band as being on the bigger side, which is one of the reasons I ordered it. After unboxing it I was surprised by another big wrist friendly design feature: The band splays out further than other squares!
In the video above, I compare the GM5600YMG to my son’s GWM5610U. Unfortunately the aspect ratio of the video cuts it off, but the band of the Fine Metallic watches don’t have as steep of an angle of the band. This will allow guys who have a wide wrist to wear these watches more comfortably.
I will make another video to further demonstrate this feature. So stay tuned for that one.
I Recommend the GM5600YMG
The bottom line is that if this gold G-Shock is your style, get it!
There are a number of practical reasons a metal looking band is better than a metal bracelet. For one example, resizing is as easy as moving the buckle in or out one notch.

I’m going to sell mine. I don’t think it’s really my style. But I have another Fine Metallic G-Shock in silver that may work better for me. I will tough test that one in the oilfield to see how abraision resistant it is. So check back in to see how well these G-Shock Fine Metallic Series bands hold up.
Video Summary
Here’s how Google’s Gemini AI summed up my YouTube video:
Jim Kinkade reviews the GM-5600YMG G-Shock from the Fine Metallic Series, focusing on its unique “liquid metal” aesthetic and innovative band construction. The watch boasts a shiny, reflective surface and a triple-layer band of urethane and silicone, designed to mimic metal while providing comfort. He finds the watch comfortable, particularly for larger wrists, and notes its longer band.
Kinkade acknowledges the watch’s bold, gold “fashionista” style might not suit everyone. He briefly mentions a future durability test video. In a humorous aside, he suggests the watch’s luxurious appearance would appeal to Facebook Marketplace buyers.
He details the watch’s module features, including alarms, a timer, a stopwatch, and an LED backlight that illuminates the entire screen. He compares the band’s design to other square G-Shock models, noting its superior fit for larger wrists.
Kinkade ponders whether the watch matches his personal style, suggesting it might be better suited for an urban streetwear aesthetic. He concludes by announcing an upcoming video featuring viewer comments and another unboxing from the Fine Metallic Series.
There you go! The AI thought it was funny that the watch will appeal to buyers on Facebook marketplace.
