Jim Kinkade on the Real Ideal Gear Podcast

Jim Kinkade joined Tim Johnson and Paul Whaley on the Real Ideal Gear Podcast to discuss what famous movie characters would wear what watches. Click through and give the episode a listen, especially if you are a movie buff.

What movie characters did I choose? What watches did I give them? I’ll tell you but obviously I will need to issue a spoiler alert if you haven’t watched the episode yet.

Walter and the WS1700

So my roommates back in the day would watch The Big Lebowski all the time. After the 100th time I had memorized most of the lines and we would end up quoting it to each other.

Anyways, the hothead in the movie is named Walter and he wears a G-Shock DW5900. The problem is that the 5900 is discontinued. So the closest replacement is the Casio WS1700, which has a similar look.

Additionally, the watch shows the moon phase which would be good for Walter’s jewish faith, the festivals of which follow a lunar calendar. Some might say Walter is actually Polish Catholic and it was his ex-wife who was Jewish. Well, when you get divorced you don’t hand in your library card and you certainly don’t stop being jewish!

Paul Whaley mentioned that the tide graph would also help Walter when he disposes the ashes of his friends at the sea shore. Good point!

Buy your own Casio WS1700 if you too want the look of a Casio watch that doesn’t go over the line! (affiliate link.)

Batman and the GBD-H2000

The GBD-H2000 is all black and has that aggressive over molding like the Batman in Tim Burton’s 1989 film. This all black fitness watch fits the Batman’s aesthetic. It has no accent colors. By the way, this all black edition is available only on Amazon. You should buy the GBD-H2000 for yourself. (affiliate link)

Adam West likes to point out that he did not need molded plastic to improve his physique. What you saw was pure West.

Unfortunately Michael Keaton did need molded plastic. But if he takes full advantage of the fitness capabilities of the GBD-H2000 maybe he could get in shape!

The Giant and the AE1500

Andre the Giant was truly a giant and he played one in the Princess Bride. I’m not a giant but I’m nearing the tail end of the global wrist size bell curve. So I know how difficult it is to find a watch with a band that fits. If there’s a watch with a band that would fit a giant, it would be Casio’s AE1500.

Besides that I just want to hear Vizzini say to the watch, “You fit the Giant?! That’s inconceivable!”

If you want to be as smart as Westley buy your own Casio AE1500. (affiliate link)

Watch the Next Episode!

It was a stretch for me to pick good movie characters because I’m not well versed in cinema. Paul on the other hand wowed us and the audience with his cinematic knowledge. Also Dave from Just the Watch chimed in the comments showing he knows a lot about film too.

Next time we meet we’re picking watches for the NFL, so I may be the blabber mouth. Yes, sir, we’re having a football themed episode of the Three Amigos. Right now the live stream is planned for Tuesday October 22. So pencil that into your calendars! (Subject to change without notice. Terms and restrictions apply. Check Real Ideal Gear for updates.)
