The negative display on the Casio GXW-56BB is terrible! It’s very hard to read. Casio needs to stop making watches with negative LCD displays!
That being said, I love this watch because of its fit. Look at this: I have an 8.5-inch wrist, and it fits on the third notch. So, big-wristers, this watch will fit you. You could probably even go up to a 9-inch wrist. The strap is very comfortable, and the double-prong tang keeps it secure.
This is a great work watch, except for the negative LCD display. It’s mud-resistant. Look at the buttons: there’s no crevice for dirt to get in. It’s like Casio put the module in a plastic case, then surrounded it with a rubber case. So, when you press the buttons, you’re actually pressing the plastic case, which then pushes the buttons. There’s not much feedback, but the buttons are big and easy to press.
I work on an oil field, and this watch has been through everything: caliche mud, hydraulic sludge, drilling fluids, diesel, and even breakfast burrito drippings. It’s taken a beating and still looks great. If you work in the oil field, construction, mining, or forestry, this watch is a good option for durability.
Another thing I like is that the strap is screwed in, so it won’t pop out like other watches. However, the protection comes with a downside: the watch sits very high off your wrist. It’s like wearing a hockey puck. It doesn’t go under your sleeve very well, but it adds a lot of presence. I’d prefer a slimmer watch, but the trade-off is durability.
There’s a small crater that can trap dirt, but I clean the watch every day. The ring around the crater is part of the watch’s encapsulation.
Overall, I love this watch, but I can’t give it five stars because of the negative LCD display and its thickness. If you’re looking for a durable work watch, the GXW-56BB is a good choice.
Update
The G-Shock GXW-56BB is no longer available on Amazon. However, you can purchase the G-Shock GX-56 using my affiliate link. This particular model does not have the Multiband 6 like the featured watch in this review.
If you prefer to buy a G-Shock King from G-Shock itself, you have several models to choose from. Click here to buy a GX56BB using my affiliate link. This one looks just like the King featured here, but again, it does not have that Multiband 6 feature.
