G-Shock offered a contest where winners would be able to purchase the $170 special NASA edition GW-6900. I entered because I was interested in this watch due to the fact it has Multiband 6 and Tough Solar, two features G-Shock seems to be putting on the back burner.
I didn’t think I’d actually win. After all NASA edition G-Shocks seem to be really popular so I thought the chances would be slim.
And to tell the truth I’m not the biggest fan of NASA. In my childhood they sold me on the dream we’d be colonizing Mars by now from our moon base. Here we are currently in the future and the space shuttle is decommissioned and we need to hitch a ride with the Russians to get to the International Space Station.
Anyway, I won the contest. The prize is that I get to purchase this watch. No discount or anything. Winner have their card charged for the price of the watch plus shipping. Losers get refunds of the cost.
Except there were no losers. After the contest ended everyone who entered got charged and the watch went on sale with no contest. So I can’t really say how much of a collectors’ item this will actually be. But I’m not complaining that I got this watch since I wanted to try out a 6900 G-Shock and this one has MB6 and Solar.
If you are interesting in purchasing a GW-6900, maybe just go with the regular old non special edition version. This NASA one doesn’t really have a whole lot that sets it apart from the standard edition.

If you are indeed interested in the NASA version, then I will say that so far I like it. It’s a little too short in the band because my wrist is big. But that’s just me. Most people won’t have that problem.
