$800 for the New G-Shock

How does $800 sound for G-Shock’s new Chronograph G-Steel watch, the GMC-B2100D? That’s the price the Kay Jeweler’s Outlet site has this unreleased timepiece listed. This was reported by G-Central.

We looked at the GMC-B2100D when the beans were first spilled about this one. While still being a rumored watch, we wondered two things: what is the caseback, and how much will it cost?

The $800 price tag listed on the Kay Jewlers’ website is not official. And don’t forget that this is the same Kay Jewelers who sent me the wrong watch. And they obviously were not supposed to release this listing to the public. And they still haven’t taken it down. So maybe the $800 is an incorrect price too. Who knows?

As far as the caseback goes, we see it’s flat and screwed in with four small screws at the corners. The steel G-Shock at the next price point down, the GM-B2100, has a screw-in caseback. That’s the type that’s like a threaded manhole cover.

At the economy price point, the $300 GM-2110D also has a screw down caseback but the case itself is plastic resin.

So which type of caseback do you prefer? I like the manhole cover type because the watch crotch isn’t as deep and it feels more robust.

As far as the price goes I don’t like it at all. To be honest my GM-2110D looks like an even better value now, so I’ll keep rooting for that one. The more I wear it, the more I like it.

Also the GMC-B2100D doesn’t have sapphire glass. I know a lot of you are sapphire glass exclusive, and the mineral glass on this one will be a problem. Especially at $800.

So stay tuned for when we get official word about the price. Maybe complaining about it will compel G-Shock to sell it for less. Who knows. Maybe there will be some killer features we aren’t seeing that will make it worth $800.

Until then consider my church watch, the GM-2110D. Cuz, it has bling! Yes cap, fr fr!
