I am SICK and TIRED of people saying that the G-Shock DW-H5600 and the GBD-H2000 can be completely powered by the sun! Let me set the record straight.
G-Shock watches with a Heart Rate Monitor do have solar charging capabilities. But they only give the watch about one bar of charge. They do not gain ground against the HRM when it’s on. And the GPS drains the battery quickly.
But what if you turn off the HRM and GPS? Based on my experience the battery will last a long time with its Solar Assist charging. But it’s just as the name says: an assistance. Eventually you will need to plug it in. It may take months. It may take over one year. But at some point the regular usage of the watch will deplete its battery if you don’t get enough sun.
That is based on my experience exposing these watches to sun in Texas. You can expect different results depending on how much sun your region receives. If you buy either one of these watches be prepared to plug it in at some point and until then enjoy wearing them because I have been.
