GA2100BCE vs. GAB2100CT

.

Both of these 2100 series G-Shock watches come from the factory with strap adapters and fabric bands, but each with a different fabric. The GAB2100CT has Eco-Cotton while the GA2100BCE has Cordura.

So if I had to pick between the G-Shock GA2100-BCE and the GAB2100CT, which would I choose? That’s the subject of my YouTube video which is another installment of my video series “One stays, one Goes.” Take a watch!

Listen, there’s a lot of YouTube watch reviewers out there. They talk about how pretty a watch is from their clean table top in a nice air-conditioned room. That isn’t me. I run my G-Shocks through the gauntlet of brutal vocational tests in the West Texas oil field.

My tests aren’t about how pretty a watch is! I ask how tough is this watch?

My brutal, real world tests are why more and more guys are subscribing to the Jim Kinkade YouTube channel! Why don’t you subscribe if you’re one of the rare few who haven’t got around to it yet? It’s free to subscribe and the information I give you can literally save you THOUSANDS in poor watch purchases.

Anyways the GAB2100CT is really pretty. That’s why I bought it. My head said no but my heart said yes. It has this beautiful mushroom gravy brown color. And you know me and mushroom gravy. I like it.

The band on the GAB2100CT is this Eco-Cotton. Normally I don’t like Eco-anything. The whole premise is dumb. Some marketing department is saying something is better for the environment. Ok, is it really? Usually not.

Futhermore Eco versions of thing are inferior. Take for example something I have to deal with every day: Ultra-Low Sulpher Diesel. Regular diesel was so much better!

But the cotton band on the GAB2100CT actually looks really good. And as much as I rip on Eco things, it is nice to know that the band has natural dyes. On the GAB2100-CT they used tea to give the band its beige color.

And that color goes nicely with denim!

Plus there’s metal rivets, which look nice but only lasted a week.

Now lets talk about the GA2100BCE and it’s Cordura band. I knew it was going to be better since Cordura is nylon, and nylon is a petroleum product. But what I wasn’t prepared for was how much better it was to the cotton band.

It blew me away!

I got used to my sweat making the Eco-Cotton band soggy. Then I try the cordura band and WOW it stays crisp and it dries really quick.

So the GA2100BCE stays and the GAB2100CT goes.

But it won’t go away quickly. I’ll keep it around to do a few more videos and blog posts. So stay tuned!

G-Shocks at Paramount Jewelers

Take a tour of Paramount Jewelers at the Music City Mall in Odessa, Texas led by YouTube’s G-Shock guy, Jim Kinkade. That’s me, by the way. The video is below.

I’ve been in here quite a few times and I’m always impressed with their selection of G-Shocks. What do you think? I have to ask because some guys were commenting that the selection of G-Shocks in their area is poor.

They said I was lucky to live near such a great store. Well it’s not luck. I don’t believe in luck. So I’m not lucky. I’m blessed.

God bless Texas! Yeehaw!

And thank you to Debbie at Paramount Jewelers for letting me film the G-Shocks.

By the way, there’s another Paramount Jewelers in Lubbock so I hope they let me film there. We’ll see! Stay Tuned!

Return of the G-Shock King!

You demanded that G-Shock bring back the King.

You insisted that they give it a positive LCD display.

I was like, hey, give me a coyote colored band, please! Enough with these wacky colors like yellow. Do you think we’re trying to hide in the banana forest?

Casio G-Shock listened. They just brought the new Tough Utility series to the American market. It has five watches with tactical colored bands, one of which is the GX-56TU, a King with a positive display and desert colored band.

What else could we ask for?

How about Multiband 6?

Nope. That’s too much!

Anyways, in this video I preview the Tough Utility series focusing on that King!

G-Shock GW6900 NASA edition

G-Shock offered a contest where winners would be able to purchase the $170 special NASA edition GW-6900. I entered because I was interested in this watch due to the fact it has Multiband 6 and Tough Solar, two features G-Shock seems to be putting on the back burner.

I didn’t think I’d actually win. After all NASA edition G-Shocks seem to be really popular so I thought the chances would be slim.

It’s OFFICIAL: the METAL Mudman

So no sooner had I published my YouTube video about how the bezel on my Mudman was warped and G-Shock needs to make another metal bezel Mudman like the Toyota Land Cruiser special edition than I got the news. G-Shock is releasing another metal bezel Mudman in its Emergency Series special Edition.

I don’t know if the metal bezel Mudman is actually better until I try it out.

In the mean time, I still highly reccomend the regular Mudman, the GW-9500, if you want an extremely durable G-Shock watch. The bezel may be just bio-resin, but it’s still light and the warpage does not bother me!

The Mudman is my favorite. It passed all my tough tests and I was brutal on that watch. I don’t recommend it as highly as I do for no reason. The version with the metal bezel will need to be tested in real life by a real life guy, ME! So stay tuned for the results after I get my hands on it.

Jim Kinkade on Real Ideal Gear Live Stream!

It was a great honor to appear as a guest on Tim Johnson’s YouTube live stream, Real Ideal Gear. We talked about how real life reviews are superior to table top reviews. We went over some of our favorite EDC gear. And of course we responded to some ridiculous comments that somehow I seem to attract on every platform I appear on.

Check out replays of the Livestream on the Real Ideal Gear YouTube channel. Here is the video embedded below.

SOG — Diverge XR — FIRST LOOK!

The green caught my eye! What can I say?

The SOG Twitch III had been serving me well, but one of its downsides is the aluminum handle can get slippery. When I got an email from SOG announcing this new Diverge XR, I noticed the handle had lines etched into its sides, which made me wonder if it’s an upgrade over the Twitch III in terms of grip.

As you can see in the unboxing video I posted on YouTube, yes, the grip is better. And yes, the forrest green pops. However the blade deployment is lethargic compared to the Twitch III. Of course the Twitch III is an assisted open.

Nonetheless, the Diverge XR is a light knife and the sheepsfoot blade offers a lot of cutting surface area. The unassisted opening does have the advantage having fewer springs and components that can potentially malfunction. For me it’s just a matter of getting the timing and mechanics down to effortlessly deploy the blade with the XR cross locking mechanism.

Stay tuned to see how it holds up to my abusive testing gauntlet! Watch the above YouTube video to see my first impressions and tell me what you think about the SOG Diverge XR. Like I said, that green looks great.

G-Shock Tool Box

Guys, I’m G-Shock Points rich. At least I was until I redeemed my G-Shock points for this G-Shock Tool Box. Let me tell you something. This tool box is amazing! I expected it to be junk!

This tool box was made in Japan by the company Toyo. The body, lid, and clasp are all metal. The handle is metal too!

The silver paint has a metallic flake and slight pearlescent sheen that looks like it was a vintage tool box restored in my garage with a rattle can of spray paint. But unlike my paint jobs, there’s no drips.

So is it worth the 900 G-Shock points?

YES!

Start racking up your G-Shock points by creating a Casio account to log into the G-Shock website and each time you buy a G-Shock you earn points.

Can I suggest a watch to get you started? It’s the GA-2100-BCE. I’ve been wearing it for the past week and this Cordura band Casioak is Jim Kinkade approved! Click through on the affiliate link above to purchase it and earn your first G-Shock rewards points.

GA010 and GD010 — NEW from G-Shock!

The guys over at casioblog spilled the beans on two new G-Shock watch models that are sure to appeal to the readers of the Beater Watch Blog. They are the GD-010, which is digital, and the GA-010, which is analog. With these watches, G-Shock refocused on basic features, legibility, and ruggedness.
