Is it a ProTrek?

Despite me wearing the ProTrek PRJB001B-2 for several days and finding many good things about it, there are some guys who insist it’s not a ProTrek. Why?!

ProTrek PRJB001B2 – Bungee Cord Band

This new ProTrek PRJ-B001-B2 straps to your wrist with an innovative bungie cord that will throttle your imagination and test your intelligence.

There are two other versions with regular low IQ bands available to the international market. Casio thinks Americans are too smart for those. So  @thissmallwrist  was asking it would fit a small wrist. I think so. I wore it in my finger in this video but that was an exaggeration. Notice how I doubled up the bungie to achieve that. I’m pretty sure about 4” is the smallest wrist size it can practically fit. Stay tuned because we’ll test this watch on a variety of wrist sizes.

G-Shock GM2110D – First Look!

G-Shock took a standard casioak, the GA2100, and encased it in steel. The result is the new GM-2110D. It will be available in 5 different colorways.

Which color is your favorite?

Updating the Software on the GBD-H2000

I plunked my phone down in front of my camera and recorded the process of updating the software on the GBD-H2000. I only had to restart the app once and try to reconnect the watch once and in one shot I got the software updated.

Just don’t ask me what changed because to this point I have no idea what was updated. There was some indication that the GPS data was updated, but beyond that I have no clue. And yes, I did an internet search to see if anyone knew — even Reddit — but I turned up nothing.

Once before Casio pushed a big software update that brought the Trekking exercise to the GBD-H2000. That update was accompanied by documentation that outlined the other details of the software that was changing.

I found no such bulletin for this update.

So right now I thinking that I may reach out to my contact at Casio G-Shock and see if I can get the scoop on what was changed on this update.

Until then enjoy this video where you can vicariously update G-Shock software.

GA2100BCE vs. GAB2100CT

.

Both of these 2100 series G-Shock watches come from the factory with strap adapters and fabric bands, but each with a different fabric. The GAB2100CT has Eco-Cotton while the GA2100BCE has Cordura.

So if I had to pick between the G-Shock GA2100-BCE and the GAB2100CT, which would I choose? That’s the subject of my YouTube video which is another installment of my video series “One stays, one Goes.” Take a watch!

Listen, there’s a lot of YouTube watch reviewers out there. They talk about how pretty a watch is from their clean table top in a nice air-conditioned room. That isn’t me. I run my G-Shocks through the gauntlet of brutal vocational tests in the West Texas oil field.

My tests aren’t about how pretty a watch is! I ask how tough is this watch?

My brutal, real world tests are why more and more guys are subscribing to the Jim Kinkade YouTube channel! Why don’t you subscribe if you’re one of the rare few who haven’t got around to it yet? It’s free to subscribe and the information I give you can literally save you THOUSANDS in poor watch purchases.

Anyways the GAB2100CT is really pretty. That’s why I bought it. My head said no but my heart said yes. It has this beautiful mushroom gravy brown color. And you know me and mushroom gravy. I like it.

The band on the GAB2100CT is this Eco-Cotton. Normally I don’t like Eco-anything. The whole premise is dumb. Some marketing department is saying something is better for the environment. Ok, is it really? Usually not.

Futhermore Eco versions of thing are inferior. Take for example something I have to deal with every day: Ultra-Low Sulpher Diesel. Regular diesel was so much better!

But the cotton band on the GAB2100CT actually looks really good. And as much as I rip on Eco things, it is nice to know that the band has natural dyes. On the GAB2100-CT they used tea to give the band its beige color.

And that color goes nicely with denim!

Plus there’s metal rivets, which look nice but only lasted a week.

Now lets talk about the GA2100BCE and it’s Cordura band. I knew it was going to be better since Cordura is nylon, and nylon is a petroleum product. But what I wasn’t prepared for was how much better it was to the cotton band.

It blew me away!

I got used to my sweat making the Eco-Cotton band soggy. Then I try the cordura band and WOW it stays crisp and it dries really quick.

So the GA2100BCE stays and the GAB2100CT goes.

But it won’t go away quickly. I’ll keep it around to do a few more videos and blog posts. So stay tuned!

G-Shocks at Paramount Jewelers

Take a tour of Paramount Jewelers at the Music City Mall in Odessa, Texas led by YouTube’s G-Shock guy, Jim Kinkade. That’s me, by the way. The video is below.

I’ve been in here quite a few times and I’m always impressed with their selection of G-Shocks. What do you think? I have to ask because some guys were commenting that the selection of G-Shocks in their area is poor.

They said I was lucky to live near such a great store. Well it’s not luck. I don’t believe in luck. So I’m not lucky. I’m blessed.

God bless Texas! Yeehaw!

And thank you to Debbie at Paramount Jewelers for letting me film the G-Shocks.

By the way, there’s another Paramount Jewelers in Lubbock so I hope they let me film there. We’ll see! Stay Tuned!
